about me
My name is Magdalena Tworek (she/her).
I am a movement artist, performer, educator and cultural organiser based between Iceland and Poland.
I explore the relationship to movement and the surroundings through the lens of the sensing body.
My current artistic and professional work revolves around community-based projects in local and international contexts.
I co-create the Iceland-based artistic and educational collective Improv for Dance Enthusiats, where I facilitate educational spaces, develop artistic and educational projects, research movement improvisation and perform.

artistic practice
Improvisation is at the centre of my artistic practice. It is where I create, perform, research and continue learning. I return to it because it allows me to stay in dialogue with what is present rather than with what I already know.
I am interested in the movement of attention. In slowing down enough to notice impulses as they arise and dissolve, creating space for choice rather than reaction. I play with the sensorial, the imaginative and the poetic, allowing movement to find its way into different forms, dance, words, sounds, images, shared meal or conversation.
My practice is informed by Butoh in the method of Minako Seki, (Contact) Improvisation, somatic research, poetry, and attentive encounters with wilderness and mystery.

educator
As an educator, I focus on a communal learning approach, co-creating safe(r) spaces for the exchange and exploration to happen - between facilitators and participants, going both ways.
With the workshop participants, we dive into individual movement and sensing research, following excercises based in Butoh Dance, Somatic Practices, Contemporary Dance Practices, Art Therapy Tools as well different art practices spanning from creative writing to installations.
I invite for explorations in different environments and work mostly in collaborations with different people enthusiastic about improvisation and creative exchanges, including artists, movers, musicians, educators.
collaborative practice
Alongside my artistic work, I develop artistic and educational projects with artists, organisations and local participants across different countries.
I co-create the Iceland-based collective Improv for Dance Enthusiasts and collaborate with the theatre group Glitzky, the NGO Community for All and the Icelandic Red Cross.
Our collaborations take the form of workshops, learning programmes and participatory performances in public spaces, theatres, museums, and cultural and social institutions.
