Be Part! is a two-year international project involving Iceland, Czechia, Mexico, Italy, Canada and the United States, which uses the artistic process as a tool to support the development of civil society, a sense of belonging and the visibility of marginalized groups.

The basic pillar of the Be Part! is a bilateral collaboration between artists and organizations from the Czech Republic and Iceland, to which professional artists from another country are invited in each part of the cycle:
Brno - Foco alAire (MX),
Reykjavík - Zerogrammi (IT),
Prague - & 44 Art Productive (USA/CA).

My participation

I have been working as a local producer in Iceland for the second part of the project - community workshops with refugees and asylum seekers led by Zerogrammi company and group of internatinal artists.

My tasks:
- creating partnerships with local institutions (Red Cross Iceland, Reykjavík City Library, Idno Theatre, Reykjanesbaer Municipality, Gerdarsafn Museum)
- booking spaces for international guests as well as rehearsal spaces for all participants
- finding channels for inviting participants including refugees and asylum seekers
- finding fitting venues for promotional activities and the final perfromance

Outcomes

About 60 refugees and asylum seekers participated in the project.

The two-weeks long workshop series took place in three locations giving various possibilities for participation:
- Reykjavik Vitatorg Centre - location available to those living within the centre of the capital
- SBK Hangar Keflavik - remote location close to camps where many asylum seekers live
- Social Centre Arskogar - location in Breidholt, the most various distric in population of Reykjavik

We participated in a longtable discussion in the City Library on the topic of Inclusive aspects of artistic processes

Our artists and musicians took part in the Winter Lights Festival in Gerðarsafn – Kópavogur Art Museum - showign the work in progress performance
