Dance and Draw / Creative Garden

Playground for Adults

The project Dance and Draw was established between Magdalena and Patrycja Bączek in 2019.
In 2020 it was granted from Summer City Reykjavik for which it took the name Creative Garden.

Our overall mission has been creating spaces where different ways of communication between adults are explored, using artistic expression.

For Creative Garden we focused on bringing more community life into a shared enclosed garden, in Old Vesturbaer in Reykjavik, between the three streets, where we lived.

Creative Garden

We invited neighbours to take part in co-creating a spirit of a playground for adults (and kids).
During the meetings we were offering excercises based in movement and visual arts but leaving space for individual decision of part-taking and free exploration.

Our aim has been to awake a playful, childlike energy in participants, to simply enjoy each others' company while exploring unusual ways of being together and communicating.

We chose to maily work with movement improvisation and collage/installation - which are great tools for everyone to get involved in artistic activity, without judging their abilities - to play together no matter the age, gender, political views and any other differences.

The project Dance and Draw has been also operating in Fraktal - a cooperative that hosted our workshops indoor.
